Dennis Spencer had a life-long passion for racing – anything from motorcycles to LMP cars; from go karts to Formula Mazda. He also had a passion for racing only Mazda rotaries, and quickly became one of the top three engine designers and builders in the country. Starting as a track hand for Jim Downing, he eventually bought the famed Kudzu DLM3, taking it to 2nd and 3rd place finishes at the 24 Hours of Daytona, two class wins at the 6 hours of Watkins Glen, even being the first to put a “Lights” car on the overall podium there. Dennis also left a legacy of his racing passion by founding a children and family dragster program, which continues today. The “Junior Dragster” program, since its inception in the late ‘90s, has seen hundreds of kids from age 8 to 17 receive an introduction to racing and an opportunity to learn life skills, then go on to successful lives, many in racing.
