Born in England, started racing in 1962 at the age of 18 in a BMC Mini. Driving career has spanned 22 years. Started his professional career in 1964 driving for the works Mini Cooper Team, then went on to drive for Ford, BMW, Abarth, Porsche and Jaguar. Won the British Saloon Car Championship in 1966, the European GT Championship in 1972 and ‘74, and the Porsche Cup in 1972, ‘74 and ‘80. For BMW he won the 1972 Nürburgring 6 Hours, the 1976 Daytona 24 Hours, the 1976 Silverstone 1000 Kms and the 1978 Mugello 4 hours. Also won the Nürburgring 1000 Kms (3 times), the Sebring 12 Hours and the Bathurst 1000 Kms in Australia. From 1981-‘87 ran his own team with wins in IMSA, Can-Am and World Sports Car Championship. Was winner of the Riverside L.A. Times Grand Prix three years out of four. His autobiography “Fitz – My Life at the Wheel” came out in 2016. He is now retired from racing.
