Pirelli World Challenge donates Long Beach race fines to charity
Over $40,000 goes to four foundations.
WC Vision today announced the fines handed down for penalties assessed at Long Beach have been collected and donated to four charities/foundations. A amount in excess of $40,000 has been distributed to the Road Racing Drivers Club Safe is Fast campaign, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, the SCCA Foundation and Project Peanut Butter.
“As a collective group, drivers and teams included, we were disappointed by some of the on-track behavior exhibited at Long Beach,” said Scott Bove, President and CEO, WC Vision. “The silver lining though is that we get to move in a positive direction with monies being donated to four very worthy charities/foundations.”
“We at the Road Racing Drivers Club are honored to have been selected to be one of the beneficiaries of the penalties assessed at the Pirelli World Challenge race in Long Beach earlier this year. The funds we are receiving will allow the Safe is Fast driver development program to continue to help improve driver skills through its tutorials, which should benefit the sport,” said Bobby Rahal, President of the Road Racing Drivers Club.
“Project Peanut Butter is the charity chosen by StopTech’s VP Sales & Marketing Mark Cornwell to honor the memory of their daughter Madison,” said Greg Gill, General Manager/VP Marketing, WC Vision. “Mark and the team at StopTech have been great partners to the series and our thoughts and prayers go out to the Cornwell family.”

Following is the letter issued by the RRDC to WC Vision thanking the organization for the donation.
June 19, 2015
Mr. Scott Bove, President/CEO
WC Vision LLC
Dear Scott:
Today was a great day for the Road Racing Drivers Club and our SAFE is FAST driver training initiative, because today we received a donation from WC Vision for SAFE is FAST.
We are aware that the funds we received were generated from the fines levied at the Long Beach event. It seems entirely appropriate and a little ironic that funds generated from drivers who didn’t live up to professional standards are going to be used to teach and promote good and safe driving. Nice.
We promise you that we will make good use of your donation. SAFE is FAST has become a worldwide success with over 1,100,000 video tutorials viewed by 360,000 unique visitors in 184 countries. With our success has come demand for more content and tutorials. Your funds arrived at exactly the right time to help facilitate our objectives. SAFE is FAST (www.safeisfast.com) was launched with FIA funds and, for the past several years, has been presented by Honda. We (www.rrdc.org) are committed to continuing to raise the funds necessary to keep this important initiative moving. We appreciate your donation and that you have joined us in this effort.
Sincerely,
ROAD RACING DRIVERS CLUB, INC.
John C. Fergus, II, Vice President and Treasurer
