Jason Ott received the Mark Donohue Award for his outstanding drive to the 2022 SCCA Touring 3 National Championship in a BMW Z4M Coupe at a very wet Virginia International Raceway.

“My racing career began in 1997 when I turned 18 in SCCA solo,” recounted Ott. “First auto-crossed my 1983 280zx. Modifications included brake pads, fluids, shocks and removed the muffler; it was such a fun car to drive. Believe my brother and I completed about 4-5,000 miles of open track and solo days.

“My first Road race was in 1999 in Spec-7, driving a 1983 Mazda RX-7. I was fortunate to win the Continental Division 4 years in a row. In 2000-2002 raced Pro SRF with several top-5 and top-10 finishes.

“I ran a number of Pro Racing events from 2000 through 2009 – World Challenge GT and GTS, plus several races in Grand-Am ST.

“Since 2009, I’ve managed six Touring 2-3 podiums at the Runoffs – P2 three times, P3 twice and one National Championship.

“True story. When I crashed at Laguna Seca in 2014, BMW Roadside Assistance came to the track for me. Now that’s solid support.”
