A driver and owner of some repute, Taylor was •86 National Drivers Champion in his native South Africa. Moving to sports cars in Europe he was fourth at the 24 Hours of LeMans in ’87. He was active in the FIA’s WSC and IMSA’s Camel GT, Camel Lights and Camel GTP series allowing him to win the IMSA WSC competition in ’94 and ’96, plus the Camel GT title in ’94. Moving to the U.S. Taylor and his longtime technical partner Bill Riley were principals in Cadillac’s LeMans effort. With teammate Max Angelelli, Taylor won the ’05 Rolex 24 and Daytona and went on to take the GRAND-AM Sports Car Series championship. In mid-’06 backed by SunTrust Bank, Taylor formed Wayne Taylor Racing and shortly thereafter retired from regular driving duties. The team has done well scoring a half dozen victories.
